This picture was taken during a competition where Clemson and other universities and industry partners presented and tested their latest robots designed to incorporate biological inspiration. This image displays Boston Dynamic's RiSE vertical scaler, based on research studying the climbing ability of geckos, attempting to satisfy one of several requirements. Clemson's role in this project involved designing the OctArm, a novel continuous manipulator based on research performed on octopuses and elephant trunks, for sensitive grasping. The RiSE and OctArm platforms have advanced robotics by incorporating basic biological inspiration into the design process.
