Crystal in the Sludge by Meg Iannacone, Justin Lapp

Scanning electron micrograph image of a gypsum crystal cluster speckled with fly ash glass spheres. This crystal is a remnant of a process used at coal-fired power plants to remove sulfur dioxide from entering the atmosphere, referred to as clue gas desulfization. This image was colored using Adobe photoshop to accentuate the center crystal. Special thanks to Dr. A. Mount, Dr. J.S. Hudson, and Mr. E.D. Cash for their help in the EM lab and interest in the project.
