A Palette of (and a Palate for) Pollen

Jennifer Tsuruda

A Palette of (and a Palate for) Pollen by Jennifer Tsuruda Honey bees collect pollen as their protein resource and use pollen to make food to feed to larvae (developing bees). This rainbow palette of pollens reflects many different species of plants in bloom and its diversity helps ensure the larvae receive a healthy diet of all essential amino acids. Nutrition is just one of the challenges that pollinators face; others include parasites, pesticides, and management.
